Let's be honest....if I feel schleppy or gross looking when I work out it really affects my workout. Seeing the image in the mirror is discouraging and I just want to leave. I long ago fell in love with Lulu Lemon, but I have found a few new designers that are pulling my attention. Enter LUCY. I read about these pants first in a magazine backstage because someone {I think Katherine Heigel} was spotted wearing Lucy pants coming out of the gym. Ground breaking news, I know. But, I keep hearing about them and finally went over to look at their site. Pants are really hard to find for me as I don't like to dance/workout with long pants. So finding cute capris and shorts can be challenging. I'm loving some of these styles....

I learned about this film coming out over at Sarah's awesome blog. I have since made the rounds showing the trailer to EVERYONE in my cast. It's a hot topic right now and worth a look. I love a good documentary :)

track the swine flu
Do your best to keep up on the quickly spreading swine flu with Google Maps outbreak tracker. We must do everything we can to keep ourselves safe! Also, keep up with the ongoings at the CDC....knowledge is power!!

goop: do
I am rather enjoying Gwenyth Paltrow's GOOP newsletter. This article got me rather intrigued as I am always on the look out for a new workout that might be able to keep me interested all the way through. Plus you can download the short video for free to your ipod! I really like Tracy Anderson's background in dance and think that we might just speak the same language when it comes to working out.

my little heart surgery
Ok, so here we are again. I am having my heart closure surgery on THURSDAY! I'm thrilled because now that my mom is 6 months out she talks a lot about feeling so much better and has way more energy than ever. I can't wait! I should be able to keep up the blog, so I will let you all know how it goes :)
Here's a little pic of the PFO device that will get implanted in my heart.

podfitness trainer
Ok, I posted about this awhile ago and here's the update! I chose to go with Podfitness.com for my audio trainer. Let me just say.....IT IS AWESOME! I totally love the fact that I can do this from home or at the gym and that I do it when I want and I don't have to keep an appointment but still have the personal working out experience.
There are lots of ways to personalize your workouts to work for you. I have to say that I really enjoy when Brittani, my trainers assistant comes on and says, "keep it up, Erin." I don't know, I guess I just need the positive reinforcement! I have used three different workouts that vary day to day so I don't get bored--which is HUGE for me. I tend to hate the monotony of doing the exact same exercises everyday or just getting on the treadmill for 30 mins. I have a cardio program, a strength training program (I'm sore right now), and a pilates program.
So, I will continue on and hopefully will have some stellar results to show off! But, honestly I feel better, I wake up in the morning easier, and my mood didn't go south when I was PMS'ing. All good things!

work it out
The problem: Typically I walk into the gym with all sorts of hopes and dreams of completing a fantastic, rigorous exercise. Then I get on a treadmill or elpitical and grunt out 30 mins of cardio and walk right out of the gym. Because of this painstaking process I find myself never wanting to go to the gym.
My current solution: I have had trainers in the past, and really like having one....although living in the NY with not much $$ to spare leaves me without one. Thus, I've been eyeing Ipod fitness trainer workouts for awhile. There are a few good ones to choose from and I would love to know if anyone out there has tried it. Basically, a trainer will lay down a vocal of a training session and I can download it on my ipod which will accompany my workout music. I think its brilliant because I don't really need a lot of help with form, I just need someone in my ear to tell me what to do next....and to keep me going!
I'm deciding between this and this. Help!

randy pausch
My mom e-mailed me this beautiful and inspiring lecture from Randy Pausch, a Carnegie Mellon professor who is dying of pancreatic cancer. It is nice to have reminders like this that keep things in perspective.

the vital vitamins
Oprah and Dr. Oz/Roizen have a checklist to stay young and healthy (also see their book). Here's the checklist. I've included just the vitamin portion, as that is something I am trying to be better at!
Vitamin D (1,000 units a day)
Calcium (66 mg twice a day) with Magnesium (200 mg twice a day)
DHA Omega-3 (600 mg a day)
Baby aspirin (2 a day, for a total of 162 milligrams)--40 yrs. and older
Multivitamin (Take half in the morning, half in the evening)
Pre-menopausal women need a multivitamin with iron and 5,000 units of vitamin A. Men and postmenopausal women need just 2,500 units of vitamin A.
