nine {pre} premiere

A couple of months ago on a short trip home to NYC I was fortunate enough to catch a special screening of Rob Marshall's Nine for the Broadway community. Such fun to see so many friends, munch on free concessions, and see a a great musical movie. I had my camera on me so when they started to bring out the "special guests" I was ready. I really only thought it would be Rob Marshall and was thrilled to see him, but lo and behold he started to introduce most of the cast, creatives and producers {including one of my Wicked producers} and we all kind of went wild. It was really fun, needless to say.....

The film had some standout moments but overall I was underwhelmed. Fergie, Penelope and Marion were INCREDIBLE and I loved Kate's Cinema Italiano {not so much her scenes}. Always love Daniel Day and the brilliant Dame Judi Dench. The film is quite beautiful and Rob Marshall really can showcase a musical number. Bellissimo!

one month until the big v-day

Valentine's Day from the lovely Gary Marshall {Pretty Woman, Raising Helen, Princess Diaries, to name a few} comes out Feb. 12. It will be a TOTAL romantic comedy {love} and its got a HUGE cast of notables. Get your girls together or drag your someone....should be fun!

The soundtrack looks great too. Would be a fun V-day listen...

let's go to the movies....outside

Summer is quickly making its final bow. I am very ready for change as we have basically been in warm/hot climates since February. I do wish though that I was able to throw one last shindig. I have always wanted to throw an outdoor movie night with popcorn, sodas and treats in my backyard. Ooh, and maybe a cotton candy machine....and twinkle lights.....lots of twinkle lights.

I found Backyard Theater...a great site with lots of ideas from other people holding outdoor movie parties. There are also a zillion places to rent a projector if you don't already have one. Someone please do this so I can live vicariously through you....

500 days of summer

PBS has recently launched PBS Video beta which is basically the hulu for Public Broadcasting.  It's pretty neat though.  I especially like the Performing Arts section, I have already watched a bit of the Royal Shakespeare's production of King Lear with Sir Ian McKellen {whose website is totally random for a big actor like he} and directed by, Trevor Nunn.  I can't wait for the Broadway shows to be posted!  I'm so nerdy.

You can browse by topic or show with already lots of options to choose from.  Get a little cultured today...I guess I can say that now that I have already watched 30 Rock and Gossip Girl yesterday.

i'm gonna live forever

I watched the television series, Fame as much as possible when I was little. I always imagined I would move to New York and become a dancer, singer, and actor. Funny.....because I did just that.

Fame inspired me when I was younger and now there is a new generation of Fame to inspire anyone who dreams of doing what is inside of them! Watch the trailer below and get excited!!!

One of my all time favorite characters is none other than Charlie Brown. I seriously love him and all the Peanuts gang. I'm pretty sure its because watching it sends me back to childhood and all of the excitement of a pending holiday when a Charlie Brown Special would air.

Well, as luck would have it (and the magic and awesomeness of youtube....you can watch it right here! Get your pumpkin, start carving and have a little Charlie Brown viewing :)

Oh yeah, one more thing.....my all time favorite Charlie Brown line? "I had some trouble with the scissors." Ah, Charlie...you kill me.

my kid could paint that

Just watched the documentary My Kid Could Paint That directed by, Amir Bar-Lev. While the film is balanced, Bar-Lev turns a corner at the end and begins to become speculative of what many believe to be a possible hoax. Marla Olmstead began painting at the age of 2 and was considered a serious abstract artist by the age of 4, garnering plenty of media attention including the New York Times and the now infamous 60 minutes II piece. I won't add my opinion to the masses for many reasons especially because she is a child and deserves to be protected rather than thrown to the wolves.

The first piece below, I believe is from the age of 4, entitled Zane Dancing (Zane is her brother). The second piece is called Fairy Map and is at an older age (exact age is unknown to me). If you are interested definitely see the documentary and gather your own thoughts on the subject!

the other boleyn girl

I love costume sketches, and I really enjoy costume heavy films which in The Other Boleyn Girl look incredible. Created by costume designer Sandy Powell (Shakespeare in Love, The Aviator), the details are just exquisite. This one, on Natalie Portman was the favorite on set, with embroidered lilies on the front.
